Meet Dr. Joseph McAulliffe

Dalton Chiropractic, Dr. Joseph McAulliffeChiropractic Saved my Childhood

I started life being born almost 2 months premature. As a result, I spent most of my childhood being sick. I seemed to catch everything that was going around and I was allergic to everything. On top of that my body was weak and clumsy. By the time I was in third grade I developed severe migraine headaches which were so debilitating that I would have to miss school. By fifth grade they were a daily occurrence.

It was at this time that my father hurt his lower back working as a truck driver. He spent two weeks lying on his back on the floor. He ate his meals there and slept there. Finally two of the other truck drivers came and carried him to their chiropractor’s office and he was able to walk out. As my father continued to visit this Dr. and heal the rest of us began to experience the benefits as well.

I’ll never forget my first adjustment. It was as though the lights had been dim and the adjustment was the switch that turned them back on. My headache immediately improved and continued to improve under care. To this day, I have never experienced pain to the degree that I had been experiencing every day.

Chiropractic Education

Shortly after my first chiropractic experience I decided that this was what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to give this experience to others. When the time came I couldn’t wait to finish my prerequisites. I attended class all day, at night and over the summers at Broome Community College and Binghamton University to meet these requirements and was accepted at New York Chiropractic College at the age of 21. I was the youngest student in my class.

The challenge of chiropractic college was balanced by the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes and I continued to benefit from the regular chiropractic care I was receiving. My first year at chiropractic school was the last year that I suffered with allergies and also the last time I ever had to take an antibiotic. Before that, I suffered terribly with allergies and would usually have at least one sinus infection a year that required antibiotics.

Chiropractic Philosophy

I endeavor to practice true to the principles of chiropractic. What that means is that I don’t see chiropractic as a “treatment” for any particular disease or condition. Instead, I view it as a way to promote health and vitality from the inside. Because one’s health and function is directly dependent on the nervous system, any interference from spinal subluxation is detrimental. Therefore, one can benefit from being checked whether an athlete looking to optimize performance or an individual struggling with chronic pain or illness looking to optimize their body’s ability to heal.

As the name says, ProActive Family Chiropractic empowers individuals and families to be proactive about their health and to that end I am passionate about areas such as prenatal care, preventative check ups for the whole family, and pediatric care. I also get special satisfaction from helping those individuals who are (like I was) struggling with conditions that are “hopeless” or “difficult” and may have been unresponsive to other types of care.

We Are a Chiropractic Family

I met my wife Terra after being fortunate enough to help her father have one of those dramatic healing experiences in my office that was like the one I had all those years ago. We live in Tunkhannock with my daughter Jillian and sons Ronan and Gabriel. I have had a life long obsession with karate and Terra’s father Bruce owns UTA Dalton where we all enjoy training and Terra and I help teach. I also enjoy hunting and staying fit.

To this day, I continue to get checked for subluxation once a week. The same is true for Terra, Jillian, Ronan and Gabriel. I have not had need for an antibiotic or other medicine since that last time back in 1994. My children have seldom had to take medication or even be sick.  I feel extremely blessed to have found this lifestyle and to be able to share it with others.

In addition to regular classes at the karate school I also enjoy training with kettlebells, hiking, and cycling as ways to stay fit. We also consume very little in the way of processed foods. We buy organic produce and raise chickens to supplement the organic meat provided by my hunting hobby.

Thanks for visiting our site. I look forward to meeting you in person and learning how we may be of service to you. Give our Clarks Summit chiropractic office a call, or email me using the link below and let’s arrange a time to explore your options.
